ARCUS Research is a self-directed residency program offering uninterrupted time and a contemplative environment for creative experimentation, in-depth fieldwork, and research. The program welcomes not only artists but also curators, researchers, writers, and other practitioners in the cultural field to engage in creative discourses and activities. Located just an hour from Tokyo and near Mt. Tsukuba, ARCUS Research provides a tranquil setting and workspace where participants can reflect and deepen their creative process. The two-week Emerging Curators Retreat focuses on Los Angeles’ international art scene with powerhouse visiting curators. Perfect for emerging and diverse individuals looking to advance their artistic and curatorial skills.
Through a series of talks, conversations, and presentations with professional curators, artists, and thinkers, and site visits to museums, galleries, studios, and alternative spaces, participants will be able to engage with the local art community and advance their careers as curators. This retreat focuses specifically on the Los Angeles’ art scene while participants develop transferable skills as a curator.
The program will take place May 22–June 4, 2019, at Otis College of Art and Design. Priority applications are due by January 30, 2019 to be considered for a fellowship. The final deadline for all applications is March 1, 2019. There is no application fee.
Visiting curators and guests include Jeffrey Deitch, Ciara Ennis, Allegra Pesenti, Marco Rios, Paul Schimmel, Hamza Walker, and more to be announced.
