MSc Material Practice
The MSc in Material Practice is an exciting new postgraduate programme from Edinburgh College of Art. It takes an innovative approach to materials, grounded in their physical nature, their qualities and their means of production.

Encompassing glass, textiles, architectural materials and metals, students are encouraged to push boundaries and experiment as they develop and expand their experience in both making objects and using materials in our state-of-the-art studios.

The programme is project led and collaborative practice is key. During the first semester projects focus on glass, textiles, metals, architectural materials and digital fabrication in turn. In the second semester, each project is cross disciplinary/cross-material in nature addressing a contemporary issue through the lens of material practice such as sustainability or disruptive innovation. The skills gained throughout the programme will lead students towards the development of a major, individual research project over the summer period.
