Perfect for emerging and diverse individuals looking to advance their artistic and curatorial skills. Through a series of talks, conversations, and presentations with professional curators, artists, and thinkers, and site visits to museums, galleries, studios, and alternative spaces, participants will be able to engage with the local art community and advance their careers as curators. This retreat focuses specifically on the Los Angeles’ art scene while participants develop transferable skills as a curator.

– Professional Artist's Development courses (60 ECTS credits)
Available for professionally active artists wishing to expand technical skills and produce artwork. Study is offered in the following areas: Glass, Printmaking, Interactive techniques, Internet-related media, Sculpture, and Video.

– Mejan Residents (60 ECTS credits)
A one-year full-time course for shorter artistic research projects with a smaller production budget. The target group of applicants are professional practitioners on an international level within their field, including artists, architects, critics, curators, filmmakers, and more.

– Performative Criticism (30 ECTS credits)
A one-year part-time course aimed at professionals within artistic fields, as well as critics, translators and aesthetic-focused writers. The course is a collaboration between the Royal Institute of Art, Fria Seminariet i Litterär Kritik, and Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts. Course is taught in Swedish.

– Architectural theory & history/Take a walk on the wild side: learning from the city and beyond (30 ECTS credits)
A one-year part-time course about developing a contemporary set of research methods, documentation, and means of public engagement that can serve to read today's emergent urban culture. Participants will develop long-term personal research projects to be presented publicly using alternative media including video, performance, exhibitions, social media, publications, etc.

– Art & Architeture/I never promised you a rose garden: urban cultures and spatial justice, greater Detroit, Stockholm, Berlin (30 ECTS credits)
A one-year part-time course focusing on "Detroit as a radical example of a segregated, de-invested, former prosperous city. The bankrupt city is surrounded by the most prosperous suburbs in the whole US. Greater Detroit is full of surprising contradictions and will be investigated with close eyes on the situations in Stockholm as well as Berlin."

About the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm

With a history dating back to 1735, the Royal Institute of Art (Kungl. Konsthögskolan) in Stockholm is one of the oldest and leading art colleges in Northern Europe. Over the years many of our graduates have gone on to pursue highly successful international careers as artists.

Key concepts of the education of the Royal institute of Art are experimentation, critical reflection and independent artistic development. The student's own independent research and practice, enhanced by individual tutorials and group critiques, is central to the education. The Royal Institute of Art has access to some of the best-equipped technical workshops within higher education in Europe, offering a wide variety of techniques such as printmaking, painting, sculpture, video, sound, photography and interactive techniques. The Royal Institute of Art is situated in central Stockholm, which is home to one of the most dynamic international art scenes in Northern Europe. The institute collaborates with a variety of art institutions including Moderna Museet, Kulturhuset, Tensta Konsthall, Botkyrka Konsthall and IASPIS for exhibitions, lectures and conferences.
