Perfect for emerging and diverse individuals looking to advance their artistic and curatorial skills. Through a series of talks, conversations, and presentations with professional curators, artists, and thinkers, and site visits to museums, galleries, studios, and alternative spaces, participants will be able to engage with the local art community and advance their careers as curators. This retreat focuses specifically on the Los Angeles’ art scene while participants develop transferable skills as a curator.

SACI is a US degree-granting art institution in Florence, Italy, for undergraduate and graduate students seeking NASAD-accredited instruction in studio art, design, conservation, art history, and Italian language and culture. Founded in 1975, SACI offers the following programs: Academic Year Abroad; Academic Semester Abroad; Late Spring & Summer Studies; Post-Baccalaureate Year Abroad; MFA in Studio Art; MFA in Photography.

The SACI Faculty is active in the Florentine art scene and introduces students to the traditional and contemporary art world in and around Florence. Courses are supplemented by field trips to museums, monuments, galleries, artists' studios, and art fairs, as well as frequent opportunities to interact directly with contemporary artists and professionals working in Italy. Application deadlines:
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with submission deadlines listed below. Applicants to programs beginning in fall that wish to be considered for SACI scholarships must be admitted prior to the March 15 scholarship deadline.

MFA in PhotographyMarch 15
SACI's MFAs are two-year programs in which students work in a creative environment of rigorous critical and technical inquiry utilizing the unique artistic and cultural resources of Florence to prepare for careers as artists and college instructors. Students pursue a curriculum integrating practical and critical skills that encourages individual innovation, creative collaboration, mentorships, and instruction from SACI's outstanding faculty.


Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Programs: June 15 
SACI's Post-Baccalaureate Certificate programs are each one year of intensive graduate study in a selected Major Discipline within Art HistoryConservation, or Studio Art. They offer students unique opportunities to create a significant body of work as a basis for application to an advanced degree program. The programs include graduate seminars, reviews, field trips, lecture series, and student exhibitions.


SACI offers a unique five-week, six-credit Archaeology Program (May 21–June 27) in the Chianti region that allows students to experience firsthand how artifacts are found, dug up, recorded, and restored in the conservation laboratory. Fieldwork is complemented by lectures by outstanding specialists in Etruscan art and civilization.

Fall semester or academic year programs: June 15
Spring semester: November 15

Undergraduate and graduate visiting students may attend for a term or more in late spring, summer, fall, or spring. SACI offers a wide variety of both traditional and cutting-edge studio art and design courses as well as classes in art history spanning from medieval to contemporary art. For conservation students, there is the unique opportunity to participate hands-on in the conservation of historic works in Florence. Studio Art courses include Fresco Painting, Serigraphy, Printmaking, Photography, Digital Multimedia, Design, Installation and Performance Art, Video, Jewelry Design, Batik, Book Making, Sculpture, Ceramics, and many more.
