| The innovative courses at Christie’s Education provide a rich learning environment, where handling works of art, discussion and research are integrated. New York City has been the heartbeat of many contemporary art movements and a major center for the international art market. Starting in the fall of 2014 with the launch of the Master of Arts in Global Contemporary Art, applicants now have two Master’s Programs at Christie’s Education to choose from. Both programs take only fifteen months to complete. Students complete nine months of course work followed by an extended study trip, an internship and a Master’s thesis. New: Master of Arts in Global Contemporary ArtThis full-time graduate program provides an in-depth study of contemporary art within a global context since 1980. The Master of Arts is designed for those who possess an art history undergraduate degree or relevant professional experience and wish to undertake a comprehensive study of the forces, techniques and processes that make up today’s cutting-edge art. Through direct examination of both the artistic and commercial goals of today’s art professionals, it offers the student a unique opportunity to engage in contemporary art within the framework of globalization. Topics will include conservation with an emphasis on new media and materials, the market and patronage, and the challenges that new forms of artistic production pose to traditional art structures. Among other practical curatorial skills, legal, tax, and insurance issues will be examined as well as the various means of measuring value in art. Upon completion of the program the student gains not only a comprehensive understanding of the central role of art within the dynamics of globalization, but also the transferable skills needed to secure a career in the international art world. Master of Arts in Modern Art and its MarketsThis full-time graduate program provides an in-depth study of modern and contemporary art and its markets, exploring their evolution from 1850 to the present day. The Master of Arts is designed for students with backgrounds in art history, as well as those with first degrees in other fields who wish to gain access to the art world. Led by an expert faculty, the program combines art history, art market history, knowledge of current art business practices, and the development of connoisseurship skills through object-based learning. Our exclusive access to the auction house and a wide range of art professionals provides students with first-hand knowledge of the workings of the art world and the transferable skills they need to become art world professionals. An intensive program, it takes only fifteen months to complete and concludes with the writing of a master’s thesis and placement in internships to help students launch their professional careers.
