In February 2014 Neon Workshops are transporting their mobile facility to Reykjavik with the aim to give participants the ultimate chance to learn about, explore and sculpt with handmade neon light under the natural light phenomenon of the Aurora Borealis.

The four-day workshop will be taught by several artists/makers from around the world, working in neon and light, with celebrated artist Magdalena Jetelová acting as the workshop's Artist-in-residence. During the course of the four-day neon workshop, optional light-themed evening events have been organised. An excursion to seek out the Northern Lights is included in the programme, and due to the winter of 2013–14 being the peak of the 11-year solar cycle, we are visiting Reykjavik at possibly the best time to view this spectacle. The Friday and Sunday evening events are happening in conjunction with the annual Reykjavik Winter Lights festival.
Workshops will be split into two classes running simultaneously, for those with and those without experience with working in neon. There will be a teacher and assistant heading up each class. Through demonstrations, presentations and experimentation, participants will be encouraged to roll up their sleeves and play with glass, flame and electricity to create their own unique neon works.
Northern Lights is available to 12 participants worldwide. Your place is confirmed once payment in full has been received. The 980 GBP fee includes the workshop costs & materials*, accommodation, breakfast and evening events. Click here to download the info sheet, detailing the schedule and venues.
On Thursday 6 February, to celebrate the beginning of the Winter Lights Festival, Neon Workshops will offer Neon Sessions throughout the day, aimed at those who happen to be in Reykjavik and are intrigued enough to spend two hours on a taster session rather than commit to a four-day workshop. You can learn more about Neon Sessions, and confirm your place via PayPal, on our website.
Please get in touch now to book your place on this once in a lifetime experience. We accept bank transfer (an invoice will be emailed) or via Paypal from our website. Members of SÍM and The Reykjavik Association of Sculptors receive 20 percent off the 980 GBP fee, please select the correct paypal option as names will be checked.
