Perfect for emerging and diverse individuals looking to advance their artistic and curatorial skills. Through a series of talks, conversations, and presentations with professional curators, artists, and thinkers, and site visits to museums, galleries, studios, and alternative spaces, participants will be able to engage with the local art community and advance their careers as curators. This retreat focuses specifically on the Los Angeles’ art scene while participants develop transferable skills as a curator.

Announcing the 2014 SVA Arts Abroad programs in art, art history, and film:

Printmaking in Havana, March 1­–9, 2014Practice lithography and woodcut techniques alongside Cuban artists in the historic, open-air facility of the Taller Experimental de Gráfica, considered to be the country's premier printmaking studio.

SVA in LA: The Film & Animation Behind-the-Scenes Series, March 3–9, 2014Visit Hollywood studios and learn directly from the filmmakers, producers and production artists who create today's top entertainments for television and the big screen.

Interior Design in Italy: Florence & Venice, May 19–June 1, 2014
Experience the architecture and design of the Italian Renaissance and investigate how these concepts can be applied to contemporary design in this workshop, which includes visits to the historic sites and notable modern structures of two of Italy's most picturesque destinations.

Screenwriting in Rome, May 25–June 7, 2014Develop scripts, watch and discuss movies, and shoot on location with working actors in "the Eternal City"—all under the guidance of film academics and professionals.

Masters Workshop: Design History, Theory & Practice in Rome, May 25–June 8, 2014
Study architecture, art, graphic design and typography—and collaborate with Italian and American designers, historians and publishers—in the birthplace of Western typographic tradition and one of the world's great cities.

Art History in Southern France, May 30–June 12, 2014Immerse yourself in the grandeur of Provence through this on-site study of Roman ruins, Romanesque architecture and works by van Gogh and Cézanne, among other artists.

Painting in Barcelona, June 25–July 14, 2014Hone your skills or explore new directions in your art while working in the spacious studios of the Escola Superior de Disseny i Art Llotja, in the beautiful Mediterranean city of Barcelona.
