UCL Qatar is a department of University College London, one of the world's foremost institutions for the study of conservation and cultural heritage. Since opening its doors in August 2012, UCL Qatar has welcomed over 80 students from 33 countries, across four graduate degree programmes in Conservation, Museum Studies, Archaeology and Library Studies.

UCL Qatar is currently accepting applications for places on its MSc in Conservation Studies commencing on 25 August 2014. The MSc is a full-time two-year programme that teaches conservation of objects (metals, glass, ceramics, stone), textiles, contemporary art and cultural heritage sites. Students will be trained in the theory and principals of conservation and restoration and will be able to specialise in a material of their choice in the second year. There is a large practical element to the course, including placements at museums, sites and cultural heritage organisations across the Middle East region and further afield. There is an increasing need for qualified conservators in Qatar and the Gulf region and graduates are expected to be highly sought.

Placement
Students will undertake an eight-week placement at a museum, site or cultural heritage organisation in Qatar, the region or internationally.

Why choose UCL Qatar?
UCL conservation students benefit from truly outstanding facilities, including the most advanced new conservation, materials science and archaeological research laboratories in the Gulf region. An ever expanding library collection is housed within the ultra-modern faculty building. UCL is based at Education City, Doha, alongside a number of the most prestigious North American institutions. Degrees are awarded from London, but international students benefit from the unique cultural experience of living in the Middle East, and Doha's positioning as a crossroads between past and future.

Scholarships
A generous range of scholarships is on for successful candidates on the basis of both academic merit and financial need and may cover full tuition fees and accommodation within the Education City Student Residence Halls. Offer holders will receive a scholarship application form in their offer pack. UCL's scholarship selection committee will notify applicants of the outcome in late May.

Entry requirements
In order to be successful in securing admission, candidates must have a good Bachelor's degree from a recognised university, normally with a minimum final GPA of 3.3 out of 4.0 or equivalent. Candidates must demonstrate strong motivation and a clear understanding of what the course entails, via the personal statement section of the application form. Relevant work experience, for example in a museum or the cultural heritage sector, will also be considered.
