Arts Management provides a much-needed bridge between arts and commerce, developing knowledge of business practices, leadership skills and managerial strategies from the perspective of the arts. The program is directed towards people with interests in areas such as theatre, film, visual arts, dance, curatorship, community arts, and council or government arts organizations.

The new Postgraduate Diploma in Arts Management is a one-year postgraduate qualification designed to enable students to build on their skills and abilities as managers and to provide a solid foundation of knowledge for the pursuit of careers in the arts as professional Arts Managers. 

The programme is Year One of our established and recently revised two-year Master of Arts in Arts Management. The low-residency, modular course structure of the Arts Management programme provides the flexibility for enrolled students to live and work anywhere within New Zealand and to study full-time for one year, or part-time for two years.

Arts and Culture in Social Context
Audience and Marketplace

Students may commence their study towards the PG Dip at the start of any one of the four individual courses starting in February, April, July and September of each year. Students not wishing to pursue the qualification might elect to study one or two courses only. Major seminars are scheduled monthly, over weekends, to provide flexibility for students in the workplace or travelling from out of Auckland.  

Upon successful completion of all four component courses, students graduate with a NZQF Level 8 Postgraduate Diploma and enhanced skills for the professional environment. Graduates might choose to continue their studies and apply for entry to Year Two of the Master of Arts in Arts Management degree (NZQF Level 9) and engage in arts management research, which can include professional internships and real-world arts management projects.
