Trans—, a Master's program in Visual Arts at HEAD—Genève, encourages and develops practices that question the relationships between art and society. Within this new framework, transpedagogy—blending art and education in order to create innovative forms of knowledge production and exchange—is taught and applied.

On this new basis, the program has been specifically conceived for individuals and groups who are interested in integrating; in artistic, authorial and cultural producer practices; a reflection on modes of collaborative production; on questions of address and reception, as well as on art considered as a possible vector for social transformation.

At the very core of the curriculum, Trans— sets up a three-semester collaborative project that involves the participants along with cultural and social actors. This nucleus creates a shared workspace in which this interdisciplinary group cooperates with a series of institutional and non-institutional partners.

This pedagogical structure is built on close relationships with the students' own practices. It aims to foster a conscious, ethical and problematized approach of artistic work in a social context, based on alternative, critical and feminist pedagogies in particular. The participants are directly involved in the different steps of the conception, development and documentation of the program's activities.

In order to broaden intellectual and professional perspectives, Trans— invites international guests, artists or researchers in the field of socially engaged art practices and of critical gallery education, such as Neil Cummings, Janna Graham, Pablo Helguera, Nora Landkammer, Olivier Marboeuf, Mathieu Menghini, Carmen Mörsch, Nora Sternfeld, Bureau d'études, and Théâtre de l'Usine.

It develops a network of partners, in particular with study programs pursuing similar goals. Trans— proposes different forms of public address (projects, open seminars, un-conferences, meetings, etc.) to open the frame for discussion about the role of artists in society. Trans— program offers professional perspectives in gallery education, artistic intervention in formal or informal educational contexts, art practices in social contexts, and citizen museography.
