Applications are now open for PNCA’S Low-Residency MFA in Visual Studies program.

Rooted in critical investigation and rigorous, self-disciplined creative practice, the mentor-based, low-residency MFA in Visual Studies program is designed for motivated students who can work independently, who desire a flexible structure, and who are seeking the challenge and community of immersive graduate studies.

Students spend three consecutive eight-week summer intensives and two one-week winter intensives on our campus in downtown Portland, Oregon. Summer intensives include graduate seminars, critiques, studio visits, visiting artist lectures, and intensive periods of studio practice. Students have studio spaces and access to production facilities including digital production studios, sculpture shops, print studios, animation facilities, and more. Every summer, a visiting artist-in-residence works for an extended period within the program. Visiting artists, scholars, and artists-in-residence are selected specifically in response to the MFA students within the program and their areas of inquiry. While off-site, students receive one-on-one mentor guidance.

This is the ideal program for the working professional with its longer degree-completion times, flexible schedules, lower tuition, and the distance-learning component, which does not require students to permanently relocate. We offer competitive merit-based scholarships for national and international students.
